Day 1 - Logan UT to Pocatello ID

We woke at 6:00 AM and left Logan at 7:30 AM. The Statistics for the
day were as follows:

  Max Elevation – 9,066 ft

  Total Ascent – 25,555 ft

  Total Miles – 157

  Avg Speed – 21.8 mph

  Top Speed 70 mph

The trails consisted of long stretches of technical riding. Roughly half the route consists of rugged single track and ATV trail with an impressive total ascent of nearly 26,000 feet. At the start of the route we came across two men from Florida who were starting the trail as well. We would see them on the trail for the first couple hours until one of them experienced a flat tire. We saw them again briefly at the start of Day 2 and never again.

We ate lunch in Lava Hot Springs. This little town is a tourist
destination where the highlight is rafting a short section of the
Portneuf River. Rafters are picked up at the end of the float trip and shuttled up main street on a flatbed trailer to start again, hooting and hollering the whole way.

Our lunch was one on the best on the trip, though the service was slow.

At some point after lunch, Bill fell on a single track trail and was abruptly stopped by a tree. His chest was sore and bruised. He finished the day in pain and would sit-out day two for much needed rest.

Overall the day was fun and technical. We rode all the planned route, except the Robbers-Roost trail and the short loop through Pocatello.

Lance and Keith flew in to join the adventure and we met them at Cowboy RV Park, Pocatello, ID
